WHAT  IS MICROVASCULAR SURGERY

 

Every tissue in the body is kept alive  by blood vessels ( arteries and veins) and some ( muscle ) require nerves to function. Microvascular surgery allows reconstructive surgeons to transfer tissue ( bone, muscle, fat, fascia, skin , etc ) from one part of the body to the either to repair damaged or dysfunctional tissue. Microvascular surgeon keep the transferred tissues alive in their new home by delicately reconnecting arteries, veins and nerves to restore their form and function. Microsurgery is sometime referred to as free flap and requires extensive training and expertise. Urologic Cancer

Comprehensive management of urologic cancers including cryotherapy and robotic assisted laparoscopic urologic surgery to treat prostate, kidney and bladder cancer.

 

Laparoscopy is a procedure that uses a small camera and specialized instruments to perform surgery within the abdomen. Robotic surgery is a type of laparoscopic surgery that uses a lot robotic system to control the surgical instruments. Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy cancerous cells.

Lead Urologist

Dr. Akornor completed his medical degree at School of Medical Sciences, University of Science and Technology, Ghana in 1994 after which he completed his Housemanship and practiced in Ghana till 2001. In 2001 was accepted for internship in General Surgery and Residency in Urology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota which he completed in 2007. He then completed Endourology fellowship at University of Minnesota. Following that, he joined Wichita Urology Group in Wichita, Kansas in 2008 where he established a very busy Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgical practice till 2011. In 2012, he relocated back to Minnesota where he began his urology practice with Minnesota Urology. His clinical interest include general urology, BPH, comprehensive management of urinary stone disease, laparoscopic and robotic-assisted technique of benign and malignant urologic disease and and expert in retroperitoneal laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
